Fatty acid profile, meat quality, and carcass traits of Nellore young bulls fed different sources of forage in high-concentrate diets with crude glycerin R. Bras. Zootec.
Ribeiro,Andressa Ferreira; Messana,Juliana Duarte; José Neto,Antônio; Fiorentini,Giovani; Berchielli,Telma Teresinha.
ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of forages with different nutritional values - specifically, corn silage (CS), sugar cane (SC), and sugar cane bagasse (SB) - in diets with crude glycerin, on carcass traits, meat quality, and fatty acid profile, using young Nellore bulls finished in the feedlot. Thirty young Nellore bulls with an initial average body weight of 416.70±24.74 kg were randomly assigned to three treatments containing different sources of forage. The carcass traits and variables related to meat quality of the Nellore young bulls were not significantly influenced by different sources of forage in diets with crude glycerin. The yellow color index was significantly greater in the fat of animals fed corn silage....

Intake and performance of confined crossbred heifers fed different lipid sources R. Bras. Zootec.
Fiorentini,Giovani; Santana,Márcia Cristina Araújo; Sampaio,Alexandre Amstalden Moraes; Reis,Ricardo Andrade; Ribeiro,Andressa Ferreira; Berchielli,Telma Teresinha.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different lipid sources on nutrient intake, performance, development and carcass characteristics of heifers raised in confinement. Twenty-one crossbreed heifers (Nellore × Santa Gertrudis × Braunvieh) received 600 g/kg forage composed of corn silage and 400 g/kg concentrate with a 58.0 g/kg fat content in the total diet. The following lipid sources were used: soybeans, protected fat (Megalac-E®) and soybean oil. The experimental design was completely randomized, with three treatments and seven replicates, and the means were compared by the Tukey test at 5%. The protected fat diet resulted in a greater intake of dry matter (8.80 kg/d) when compared with the other diets. The animals that were fed the...

Metabolism and ruminal parameters of Holstein × Gir heifers fed sugarcane and increasing levels of crude protein R. Bras. Zootec.
Queiroz,Maria Fernanda Soares; Berchielli,Telma Teresinha; Signoretti,Ricardo Dias; Ribeiro,Andressa Ferreira; Morais,Juciléia Aparecida da Silva.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing levels of crude protein (CP) in the diet (13, 15, 19 and 22 g/100 g of dry matter, DM) on the metabolism and ruminal parameters of crossbred heifers fed forage sugarcane. Four crossbred Holstein × Gir heifers of average initial weight of 200 kg and average age of 14 months were used. The experimental design was in a 4 × 4 latin square. The intake values of DM, organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) were not affected by the protein contents of the diet. The apparent and ruminal digestibility of DM and OM were affected by the protein content of the diet. Greater total apparent digestibility coefficient of CP (0.749) was observed for the...

Rumen fermentation and rumen microbes in Nellore steers receiving diets with different lipid contents R. Bras. Zootec.
Messana,Juliana Duarte; Berchielli,Telma Teresinha; Arcuri,Pedro Braga; Reis,Ricardo Andrade; Canesin,Roberta Carrilho; Ribeiro,Andressa Ferreira; Fiorentini,Giovani; Fernandes,Juliano José de Resende.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of dietary lipid content (20, 40 and 60 g/kg dry matter) on intake, total and ruminal apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation parameters, microbial synthesis efficiency and rumen microbial content of beef cattle. Nine cannulated steers at 6 months of age with initial body weight of 232±35 kg were used in a triplicate 3 × 3 Latin square design. The results indicated that the total intake and digestibility of DM, organic matter (OM), gross energy (GE), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were not affected by the lipid content of the diet. However, the lowest lipid content diet reduced the total digestibility of crude protein...
